NOTE ON PATTERN MAKING PROCESS
Each piece begins by the fabric first being scoured (cleaned so that the dye takes well) then it is passed to Daniela – who sews them onto the trouser style. Lisa then mordants the jacket by soaking it in alum lactate ( this is a substance derived from the uk sugar industry) by mordanting the fabric it helps it become colourfast and allows it to hold onto the colour once dyed. A day later once the mordant has done its job Lisa can begin dyeing. This jacket is dip dyed in Cutch. Cutch produces rich brick tones depending on how long it is left in the dye bath to soak. This jacket is left in for at least 12 hours to fully absorb the natural dye. Once happy with the shade it is rinsed in cold water and then washed at 30 degrees in the washing machine to confirm colourfastness.
This process is made with a lot of love and care. Each jacket will have the same technique applied but will be a tiny bit different due to the random way the dye can take up into the fabric.
